Tonight there was a stark contrast struck between the two candidates for President that was unmistakable: a man sleepily speaking to a room that looked like it belonged in a Holiday Express, and an oratorical spectacle of a man declaring truth to power in a display that would make Cicero envious.
I want to thank the GOP brainchild who thought it would be a good idea for Senator McCain to deliver a prepared speech in the place and manner in which he did. Whoever you are, you've done the Democratic Party a terrific and important service. I don't think there could have been a more perfect distinction made between the Republican and Democratic contenders than what we saw tonight. Hilarious.
Dems, this is what a Divided Party looks like.
Good Lord, this is who the Republicans are fielding againt Obama? McCain looked like a man who is desperate to claim any legitimate title the the political meme of 2008 - change. So desperate, he is forced to turn and attack the true dead-enders of America, the dwindling 27% of American idiots who can find no fault in Bush. This move will cement their hostility towards him for, amongst other things, stopping short of concentration camps, razorwire and gov't-sanctioned human hunts against undocumented immigrants. He's forced now to rely upon the corporate forces that demand his alegiance to Bush policies, while at the same time publically denouncing them. He's Anti-Change. Bizzaro-Obama. Up is Down. War is Peace. Ignorance is Strength.
This'll cost him, and cost him dearly. The Neo-cons can't decide if they love him (Iraq) or hate him (immigration). The Theocrats certainly reserve a deep and abiding loathing for him. Centrist Republicans can't trust him.
His own party is gonna eat him alive, now that the media attention is sliding back towards him again.
We've had too long of a time in the spotlight as a divided party. Now we will see what a TRULY divided party looks like, a party with ideology conflicts that resemble deep ocean trenches.
I fully expect polls to rebound in significant amounts in Obama's favor where he is performing slightly worse than McCain, and to widen considerably where he already leads.
I hope you enjoyed your lunch, Sen. McCain. You've had months to digest it. Here comes the bill...
